The New York University women's tennis team started its 2025 spring season with a 5-2 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Saturday, February 22, in Troy, NY.
In doubles action, the Violets secured one of three matches. The No. 2 duo of Emma Kast and Jimena Menendez earned a 6-3 win. However, RPI took the doubles point after winning at No. 1 and No. 3.
NYU bounced back in singles play, winning five of six matches. Menendez (No. 1) led the way with a strong performance, securing a 6-1, 7-5 victory.
The Violets' other wins also came in straight sets. Victoria Wang (No. 3) won convincingly, 6-1, 6-3, while Aditi Narayan (No. 4) followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win. Norah Staunton (No. 5) and Kendall Kamerschen (No. 6) won by scores of 6-4, 6-1 and 6-2, 7-6 (5), respectively.
"The women played well top to bottom," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "They lost the doubles point in some close matches, but got reset quickly and dominated the singles. I'm happy with the play of our newcomers who picked up their first college wins and proud of the returners for leading the way."
The Violets will return to action on Sunday, February 23, when they take on Union College in Schenectady, NY.
