Women's Basketball Defeats New Jersey City

Violets Score Over 100 Points for Third Straight Game

The #1-ranked New York University women's basketball team hosted New Jersey City University for its home-opener at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan, NY, on Sunday, November 16.

The Violets defeated the Gothic Knights 112-40 for their 65th consecutive win. They now hold the third-longest winning streak in NCAA Division III history and seventh-longest across all divisions, passing Transylvania in the record books.

NYU never trailed after scoring the first 17 points of the game, 11 coming from Aila Kaibara, who went 3-4 from the three-point line in the first four minutes.

The Violets' lead ballooned to 33-8 at the end of the first quarter.

NYU settled into a comfortable 57-17 lead at halftime.

The third quarter was a continuation of the Violets' offensive momentum, as they extended their lead to 91-26 at its completion.

NYU scored 100 points for the third consecutive game, the first time that's been done in program history.

Six Violets scored in double figures, led by Kaibara who finished with 21 points, a high for the freshman's young career. Caroline Peper added 14 while Olivia Lagao tallied 12. Sofia Corral scored 11 as Brooke Batchelor and Megan Ohonde notched 10 apiece.

Every player that got in the game scored at least two points.

"I didn't really know how many points I had. The ball was just moving and we're all just having so much fun," said Kaibara. "Each game we're getting more and more energized and everyone is coming together."

Yasmene Clark led the way with 12 rebounds as Batchelor recorded seven along with four steals.

"It was nice to see the entire team get in and get involved on offense and defense," said Head Coach Meg Barber. "We're trying to build week by week. We know we're everybody's targets and it's a fun position to be in."

The Violets are back in action on Saturday, November 22, hosting New Paltz at the Paulson Center. A ring ceremony celebrating the Violets' 2025 National Championship will take place prior to tipoff at 2 p.m.
