Women's Soccer Ties Rochester

Match Ends in a 1-1 Draw

The #25 ranked New York University women's soccer team tied #22 the University of Rochester 1-1 on Saturday, October 11, in Newark, NJ.

The match went scoreless in the first half as the defense from both teams kept offensive momentum to a minimum. The Violets threatened to break through in the 24th minute on a shot from Marlee Scanlon, but the Yellowjackets' goalkeeper managed to make the save.

Rochester threatened with a chance of their own in the 33rd minute on a shot to the high left corner, but a diving Mia Capo prevented them from getting on the board.

NYU struck first in the 56th minute on their first shot of the half. Scanlon didn't miss again, burying a ball in the upper left corner of the goal off an assist from Hunter Hoelscher to give the Violets a 1-0 lead.

Rochester came close to tying the match on a penalty kick almost 10 minutes later. Capo once again made a diving save, blocking the shot from getting through the lower right corner.

The Yellowjackets evened the match with a late goal in the 85th minute.

The 1-1 score held through the rest of the match.

"We competed hard but we weren't quite good enough to secure a win I think we probably deserved," Head Coach Scott Waddell said. "We failed to put the game to bed and manage it at the end. We intend to grow from this experience and push on together."

The Violets take the pitch again on Saturday, October 18, at 1:30 p.m. against Emory University in Atlanta, GA.
