The New York University men's soccer team earned its second win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday, October 8, in Newark, NJ.
Less than seven minutes into the game, the Violets broke the ice, as a deflected ball inside of the box found
Giulio Potenti, who buried his third goal of the season. The score remained 1-0 through halftime.
In the 64th minute, the Scarlet Raiders scored the equalizer, as a shot from just inside of the box found the low right corner of the net.
12 minutes later,
Terra Nagai perfectly placed a corner kick in front of the goal, which
Joe Brancato managed to head past the keeper, giving NYU the 2-1 lead. It took just three more minutes for the Violets to add on, as Nagai was on the receiving end of a pass from
Audric Mac inside of the box, which the former put into the back of the net.
Rutgers did manage to cut the deficit in half with a goal in the 86th minute, but NYU hung on the win.
In goal,
Jackson McCloskey faced six shots on the afternoon and registered four saves.
With their non-conference schedule now wrapped up, the Violets will return to conference play with a home matchup against the University of Rochester. Kickoff is set for 5:30pm on Saturday, October 11, at Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ.
