The New York University women's soccer team faced Case Western Reserve University on Sunday, October 26, at Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ.
The Violets, celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month, fell 2-0 to the Spartans.
The first shot on goal resulted in the first goal of the game. In the 30th minute, Case Western Reserve had a deflected strike trickle into the NYU goal. The Spartans had a second goal in the back of the net a couple of minutes later, but it was ruled out by a foul on midfielder
Allie Wall.
The game remained 1-0 through halftime and much of the second half. In the 55th minute,
Rena Kalargiros had a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but slipped a through ball from
Hunter Hoelscher just wide.
Goalkeeper
Maddy Tohanczyn made a great save off of a direct free kick from Ceci Dapino of Case Western two minutes later to keep it a one goal game. Case Western Reserve continued to knock on the Violet's door, as Izzy Probst hit the post in the 66th minute.
Case Western made it 2-0 in the 78th minute off of a goal from Alexis Sassower. Tohanczyn could not keep the ball out after making numerous saves in the half.
Sari Frankl had a shot saved in the 80th minute, but could not convert the chance.
Julia Spang also had a shot saved from a direct free kick five minutes later.
The Violets were outshot 16-10, including 6-3 for shots on goal. Tohanczyn ended the game with three saves.
The Violets travel to St. Louis to take on Washingon Univeristy in St. Louis on Saturday, November 1. The game is expected to kick off at 2:30 pm.
