Victoria Wang Advances in ITA Cup

Victorious in Three-Set Match

Victoria Wang of the New York University women's tennis team continued play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup, which is being held in Rome, GA, Thursday-Sunday, October 16-19.

After losing her first-round match on Thursday, Wang bounced back in a big way, beating Lucy Nabedrick from Trinity University (Texas) 5-7, 7-5, 6-3.

"Vic is a three-set queen. She just finds a way," Head Coach Horace Choy said. "Her opponent started out hot and Vic was struggling to find her rhythm. She managed to take the legs from the other girl as she tired and won the second set. By the third set, both were exhausted. But, Vic had enough left in the tank to pull it out."

After winning today, Wang plays one more match on Saturday against Eleanor Archer from Washington University in St. Louis. If Wang wins that match, she will finish tied for 9th place. If she does not, she will finish tied for 11th place.

"Even though she wasn't playing her best, she extended points and games. As I reminded her, it's a marathon, not a sprint," Choy explained.

Wang plays her final match Saturday, October 18 at 9 am.
