Behind a 54-point first half, the
#1-ranked New York University women's basketball team defeated Carnegie Mellon University 91-62 on Friday, January 24, in Pittsburgh, PA.
A game in which the Violets never trailed, NYU raced out to a 16-2 lead just over four minutes into the contest, led by seven points from
Caroline Peper. By the end of the first quarter, Peper reached 15 points, while
Brooke Batchelor scored seven points of her own.
The Violets took their largest lead of the first half on their final possession of the second quarter, when Peper converted on a layup to give NYU a 54-27 advantage heading into the locker room.
Out of the break, the Violets continued to put their foot on the gas with a 9-0 run in the first three minutes of the third frame.
NYU went on to close the night with a 29-point win to remain perfect in both conference play and overall record.
After having just set a career-high in scoring one week ago, Peper eclipsed that with a total of 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. Batchelor fell two rebounds shy of a double-double with 11 points and eight boards.
The Violets will close out the weekend against Case Western Reserve University on Sunday, January 26, at 12 p.m. in Cleveland, OH.
