Women's Basketball Dominates UAA Opener

Undefeated Violets Defeat Brandeis 95-41

The New York University women's basketball team opened its University Athletic Association (UAA) slate with a 95-41 win over Brandeis University on Saturday, January 11, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manahttan.

The Violets (12-0, 1-0), who are ranked #1 in NCAA Division III, have now won 43 consecutive games, the longest streak in the nation.  

NYU scored the first five points of the game and raced out to a 21-5 lead. The advantage grew to 30-11 and the Violets went on to lead 32-13 after the first quarter.

The gap continued to widen in the second quarter as the Violets went ahead by 36 points, 53-17, before taking a 53-19 halftime lead.

The Violets forced the Judges (7-5, 0-1) into 21 first-half turnovers and held them to 29.6 percent (8-of-27) shooting from the field.
  
NYU scored the first five points of the second half and increased its lead to 77-27 at the end of the third quarter.

The Violets went up by a game-high 55 points, 95-40, on a pair of free throws from Alexia Mousouroulis with 1:09 remaining in the game   

Jamie Behar led six NYU players in double figures with 16 points.

"Playing in my first UAA game was really exciting. I'm super happy to be in this league and part of this team and the success that they've had," said Behar, now in her first year at NYU after an undergraduate career at Lehigh University. "I felt really good today. The team does a great job in helping find shots for me and I was abe to contribute and knock those down today." 

Mary Kate Fahey had 15 points, Belle Pellecchia scored 14, Natalie Bruns added 13, and both Caroline Peper and Brooke Batchelor contributed 10.

Batchelor recorded her first career double-double by adding a career-high 10 rebounds, while Behar had six.

Bruns dished out a career-high eight assists.

The Violets continue UAA play on Friday, January 17, when they host Emory University back at the Paulson Center. Tip-off is set for 7:30pm
