The New York University men's tennis team fell to Stevens Institute of Technology 5-4 on Sunday, April 7, at the Stadium Tennis Center in the Bronx.
The match was close at the outset, with NYU taking an early lead and winning two of the three doubles matches.
Boren Zheng and
Alexander Lee claimed victory over their first doubles opponents, 8-2, while
Louis Frowein and
Jingyuan Chen also came out on top at the second flight 8-2.
Heading into the singles round, the Violets were only one win away from sealing the match after Frowein continued his winning ways, defeating his third flight opponent 6-4, 6-4 and Zheng won the #1 singles matchup 6-1, 6-4.
But, NYU could not get another win and dropped its next four singles contests.
"We have come out on the losing end of three matches 5-4 and have to figure out a way to win those," said Head Coach
Horace Choy. "Our guys competed hard, with a couple of points being the difference. We know what we have to work on in practice and look for a better result on Wednesday."
The Violets will return to action this Wednesday, April 10, against the New Jersey Institute of Technology at 4pm in Newark, NJ.
