Andrew Reid pitched 8.2 dominant innings to lead New York University's baseball team in a 3-1 University Athletic Association (UAA) win over Emory University on Sunday, April 7, at the Staten Island University Hospital Community Park in Staten Island, NY.
It was the finale of a four-game weekend series between the two teams which was split evenly, as NYU improved to 16-8 and 3-5 in the UAA with today's victory.
Reid was masterful on the mound, allowing just one hit and three baserunners through the first eight innings.
The Violets opened the scoring on
Nate Pallotta's RBI single in the bottom of the first which was the only run scored by either side over the first five-and-a-half frames. NYU doubled its lead in the bottom of the sixth when Pallotta scored from third on a wild pitch.
Connor Roggero notched an RBI single to give the Violets and insurance run in the bottom of the eighth and Reid stepped back out on the mound in the top of the ninth in search of a shutout.
Emory's leadoff batter singled, then Reid induced back-to-back fly-outs. But, the next batter doubled in the Eagles' lone run of the game which ended Reid's outing.
Aidan Dolinsky came in to finish things off, giving up a single to the first batter he faced before delivering a strikeout with runners on first and third to secure his first save of the season.
Reid improved to 4-0 on the year, fanning 10 across his 8.2 innings of work.
Nick Argenziano had the Violets' lone multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
Next up for NYU is a return to non-UAA play with a road game against Vassar College on Wednesday, April 10, in Poughkeepsie, NY.
