New York University's baseball team fell 11-7 at Vassar College on Wednesday, April 10, in Poughkeepsie, NY.
The game was called after eight innings due to darkness as NYU dropped to 16-9 on the season.
Both teams plated a run in the first, with the Violets' coming on a sac fly from
Cam Dunn. Scoring continued in the second, as NYU pushed across two more thanks to another sac fly from
Harrison Blueweiss and
Nick Argenziano's RBI single. But, the Brewers answered with three runs in the bottom half to go up 4-3.
The Violets were held scoreless in the top of the third before Vassar collected three more tallies in their half to extend the lead to 7-3. The fourth was scoreless, then NYU got back within one (7-6) after scoring three in the fifth on a two-run double from
Alex VanLandingham and
Dakota Barbet sac fly.
However, the hosts notched another run in the bottom of the fifth before adding three more in the sixth to take an 11-6 advantage. Neither side scored in the seventh and Dunn drove in another run in the top of the eighth before NYU's rally ended and the game was called.
Argenziano finished 3-for-5 at the plate while Blueweiss, Dunn and
Nate Pallotta added two hits each.
Tyler Tedeschi,
Zack Cetin and
Ansel Balmer all had scoreless pitching appearances in relief.
NYU returns to University Athletic Associaton (UAA) play on Friday, April 12, at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.
