New York University's baseball team amassed 34 runs across its pair of wins over Brandeis University in a University Athletic Association (UAA) doubleheader on Sunday, April 14, in Waltham, MA.
The Violets won game one 18-6 and took game two 16-4 in a dominant day. NYU is now 20-9 on the year and 7-5 in the UAA, winning all four this weekend against the Judges.
Game 1: NYU 18, Brandeis 6
NYU scored in each of the first five innings while all six of Brandeis' runs came in the bottom of the third. All three Violet runs in the second came on
Nick Argenziano's three-run homer while a trio of runs came across in the fifth when
Tucker McDonough also launched a three-run shot.
Neither team scored in the sixth before NYU posted three runs each in the seventh and eighth to continue the offensive outburst.
Harrison Blueweiss had a double and three RBIs, Argenziano was 2-for-4 with three runs and a double in addition to his three-run home run,
Cam Dunn scored three times,
Nate Pallotta went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and McDonough scored three times on top of his three-run homer.
Additionally,
Alex VanLandingham was 3-for-6 with three runs and two RBIs,
Max Oliveira drove in three runs and
Dakota Barbet went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and an RBI.
Andrew Reid improved to 5-0 on the year as he struck out five across his 5.1 innings on the mound.
Miles Kessler and
Dylan Branca both had scoreless outings in relief.
Game 2: NYU 16, Brandeis 4 (7 Innings)
Solo homers from Dunn in the first and Oliveira in the second put NYU up 2-0 early, then a five-run fourth made in 7-0 after four full.
Brandeis plated two in the bottom of the fifth, but the Violets answered with nine more runs in the top of the sixth. The Judges rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh and final inning, but couldn't close the large gap.
Dunn added another homer, this time a three-run shot, in the fourth to finish 3-for-5 with two runs and five RBIs.
Blueweiss (2-for-2, 3 R, 2 RBIs), Argenziano (2-for-4, 4 RBIs, 2 R, 2B) and Pallotta (3-for-3, R, RBI, 2B) all stayed hot at the plate in game two.
Joe Cetale got the pitching win, tossing five innings with no walks and four strikeouts while allowing four hits and two runs (none earned).
Aidan Dolinsky pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
NYU returns home to face Case Western Reserve University in game one of another UAA series on Friday, April 19, at the Staten Island University Hospital Community Park in Staten Island, NY.
