The New York University softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to
#5-ranked Christopher Newport University on Friday, March 22, in Newport News, VA.
The Violets (5-9) were edged 2-0 in the opener and 9-1 in the nitecap.
Karleigh Kluever went the distance for NYU in game one. She allowed nine hits, but only the two earned runs, while striking out three.
Christopher Newport (15-2) scored one in the second and one in the sixth to gather all the offense they needed.
The Captains' Kate Alger only allowed two hits in the game, which were recorded by NYU's
Lindsey Baron and
Caroline Hofmann.
The second game was scoreless until Christopher Newport plated five runs in the third inning, followed by two in each of the next two innings.
NYU's only run came curtesy of
Claire Carson's steal of home in the top of the fifth.
The Violets had four hits, with
Alyssa Quary accounting for half of them. Baron and Carson had the other two.
Marina Egbert went the first three innings for NYU and suffered the loss.
The Violets return to action next Friday, March 29, when they open University Athletic Association (UAA) play at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.
