New York University's softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against the second-ranked team in Division III, Salisbury University, on Monday, March 18, in Salisbury, MD.
The Seagulls took game one 8-0 and game two 10-2, despite it being just a one-run game heading into the final inning.
Game one was a five-inning affair, with Salisbury opening the scoring with a lone run in the first. Two more Seagull runs came in the third, before a five-run fifth from the hosts ended the contest.
The Violets best scoring opportunity in the opener came in the top of the fifth as they loaded the bases with two outs, but a lineout to shortstop ended the rally.
NYU totaled six hits, led by
Mia Lemmon who went 2-for-2 at the plate.
Emily Barbire got a single in her pinch-hit at bat,
Claire Carson was 1-for-1 with a walk,
Lizzy Smith went 1-for-2 and
Margaux Lesser 1-for-3.
In game two, Salisbury scored twice in the bottom of the first to get things started. But, RBIs from Smith and
Chloe Stone in NYU's half of the third tied the score 2-2.
The Seagulls plated a run in the bottom of the fourth to go up 3-2 before a scoreless fifth inning. However, a seven-run sixth for Salisbury concluded the day's action.
Lesser was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base in game two, with hits also coming from Lemmon, Smith and Carson.
The Violets continue their Mid-Atlantic trip with a doubleheader at Gallaudet University on Tuesday, March 19, in Washington, DC.
