Women's Basketball Team Marches On

Violets Roll to 119-55 Victory

Another game. Another win. Now 37 in a row and counting.

The undefeated (6-0) and top-ranked New York University women's basketball team scored the first 16 points en route to a 119-55 victory over SUNY Cobleskill (8-2) on Friday, December 6, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.

Ranked #1 by both D3hoops.com and the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association), last season's undefeated (31-0) NCAA Division III Champions began their dominance early on Friday, streaking out to that 16-0 lead and going ahead 26-8 after the first quarter.

The NYU advantage grew to 43 points at halftime, 65-22 and 100-38. after the third quarter.

All 19 Violets played and 16 scored, with four reaching double-digits.

"It was a total team contribution today, which is always great," said Head Coach Meg Barber. "For all of our players to get the opportunity to go out there and showcase their skills really means a lot to the whole team."

Natalie Bruns tied her career high with 29 points, Belle Pellecchia added 16, Jamie Behar had 14, and Brooke Batchelor scored 10.

Behan also finished with a game-high seven assists.

The Violets set a team record with 18 made three-pointers, connecting on 50 percent of their attempts (18-of-36) and topping the old mark of 17 last set in 2022.

"In some of our games it felt like there was a lid on the basket, so it was really nice to see the three go down for us today," Barber explained.

NYU's 119 points were the second-highest total in program history behind only the 123 scored against John Jay College in 2000.

The Violets hit the road for their next contest this Sunday against Tufts University in Medford, MA.

"A NESCAC team on the road is really tough and we've been in some real battles with Tufts, so getting a game back under our belt after a long layoff was a great opportunity for us," Barber added.

Tip-off on Sunday is set for 12:00pm.
