The New York University men's basketball team returned to the court and posted an 82-57 victory over Marywood University on Tuesday, December 3, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
The
#10-ranked Violets (6-0) opened the contest by scoring the first seven points and took an 11-point lead, 30-19, on
Zay Freeney's layup with 5:17 remaining.
The Pacers (5-3) immediately responded with a 10-0 run to inch within a single point.
However,
Tristan How's consecutive three-pointers gave the hosts a 35-29 lead at halftime.
The lead grew to 20 points, 61-41, on
Chuma Oyigbo's three-pointer with 11:13 left.
"Marywood's energy was terrific in the first half, but we settled down and got great shots in the second half and I think our pressure really got to them," said Head Coach
Dave Klatsky.
Marywood again made a run, going on an 8-1 streak to pull within 13 at 62-49. But, Oyigbo followed with another three and a layup to squash the threat.
The Violets' lead eventually grew to 27 points before they settled for the 25-point victory.
How led the Violets with 17 points, Freeney had 16 and
Jack Stone added 13 and a game-high 10 assists.
"Every game it can be someone different. That's who we are," Klatsky explained. "We have a lot of different threats out there."
The Violets return to action this Saturday, December 7, when they host Connecticut College at the Paulson Center. Tip-off is set for 1:00pm.
