In its penultimate non-conference match, the New York University women's volleyball team swept Hunter College on Wednesday, November 6, in New York, NY.
After trailing 4-3 to begin the match, the Violets used an 11-1 run to stay on top for the rest of the way. Later in front 18-10, NYU won seven of the next eight rallies to clinch the opening set.
Grace Nelson registered three consecutive kills to end the frame.
The Violets did not trail at any point in the second set, getting out to a 12-2 advantage. NYU increased its lead to as much as 16-6, but the Hawks responded with six straight points to get to within four. Hunter then managed to cut the deficit to three, down 20-17, before the Violets won three consecutive points to grow their advantage to six.
Chloe Hynes landed the set-winning kill to put NYU ahead 2-0.
NYU once again got out to a strong start in the final stanza, jumping ahead 7-0. The Hawks won back-to-back rallies just twice in the frame, as the Violets ended the match with a 25-13 set win.
"Tonight, our team did a great job at focusing on our team bond and our confidence and support for each other," said Head Coach
Andrew Brown. "I'm proud of how close this group is and their grit and the way they fight together."
Nelson collected 10 kills and four serving aces on the night, both of which led the team.
Ava Launsbach had a team-high 18 assists.
NYU will close out non-conference action on Friday, November 8, against Montclair State University at 7:00 pm in Montclair, NJ.
