The New York University men's soccer team lost 2-1 against the Carnegie Mellon Tartans to a last-minute winner on Sunday, Novemeber 3 in Pittsburgh, PA.
The Tartans started the game with two shots on target by the 8th minute, forcing sophomore goalkeeper
Jackson McCloskey into early saves. The momentum shifted NYU's way in the 20th minute and the opening goal came off a
Joss Cohen cross. Senior forward
Bryce Lexow scored his ninth goal of the season by jumping between two Tartan defenders to head home in the 29th minute.
Carnegie Mellon had a chance to tie it up four minutes later when they were given a penalty for a push in the box. McCloskey made a strong save to his right side to deny the potential equalizer.
The second half started with multiple substitutions for both teams and the first shot of the half came in the 63rd minute. A Carnegie Mellon corner went high and to the Violets' back post, which defender Brendan Schonwetter headed past McCloskey to tie up the score.
The Tartans continued to knock on the door, threatening McCloskey's goal with seven more shots. They got the winner with 16 seconds left to play. Tartans goalkeeper Kai Yamamoto launched the ball up the pitch and no Violet could get rid of it. The ball ricocheted and fell to Jake Kavan, who volleyed his shot into the top right corner.
The Violets registered nine shots to the Tartans' 15, with NYU on target twice compared to the Carnegie Mellon's 10.
The men's soccer team return to action next Saturday for its final game against Brandeis University in Waltham, MA at 2:30pm.
