The #21-ranked New York University wrestling team fell to #5-ranked Johnson & Wales University in a dual meet on Saturday, November 23, at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan, NY.
With the Violets leading 19-14 through the first eight bouts, the Wildcats claimed the final two bouts to edge out NYU.
After J&W got off to a strong start with a tech fall in the 125-pound bout, Jacob Venezia answered strongly at 133 pounds, recording a major decision to cut the deficit to one.
The Wildcats once again claimed a tech fall in the 141-pound class, but at 149 pounds, John Mariano posted a tech fall of his own to make it 10-9.
NYU then recorded three wins out of the next four bouts, highlighted by a Cooper Pontelandolfo major decision victory in the 157-pound class.
Nicky Bell and Trent Furman each posted decisions in the 174-pound and 184-pound classes, respectively, to give the Violets a five-point edge in the team score.
The Violets will be back in action on Saturday, December 7, when they travel to Bristol, RI, to compete in the Roger Williams Duals. NYU is set to face Roger Williams, Rhode Island College, and Western New England University, with competition set to begin at 10:00am.
