Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

How About That!

Tristan How's 26 Points Leads Men's Basketball to Victory

In his second game as a member of the New York University men's basketball team, Tristan How scored 26 points to help lead the Violets to a 102-78 victory over Rowan University on Sunday, November 10, in the NYU Tip-Off Classic at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.

A graduate transfer from the University of Virginia, How scored 20 in the first half and NYU led 55-41 at the intermission.

"My teammates have really encouraged me," said How, who also finished with a game-high 11 rebounds. "The key to this team is that we have so many threats. I was on today and they found me. I appreciate them putting the ball in my hands and trusting me."

The Violets maintained their double-digit lead throughout the second half, with Rowan edging to within 11 at 80-69.

However, NYU scored the next 12 points to take a 92-69 lead with Zay Freeney, who finished with 14 points, accounting for 10 during the streak.

The lead grew to a game-high 27 points, 102-75, on Chuma Oyigbo's layup in the final minute.

NYU never trailed in the contest.

Jack Stone finished with 19 points and a team-high six assists. Hampton Sanders scored 15, and Brock Susko added 12 points to go with eight rebounds.

"As I said after our win yesterday, any one of our players can be the star on any given day," said Head Coach Dave Klatsky. "Today was a day that set up well for Tristan and he delivered. In addition, when our team shares the ball and we can find open threes, we will have games like this where we shoot incredibly well."

NYU shot 57.4 percent (39-of-68) from the field and 40 percent (8-of-20) from three-point range.

The Violets return to action on Saturday, November 16, when they travel to Union, NJ, to face Kean University at 1:00pm.
