The New York University men's soccer team tied Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), 1-1, on Saturday, October 5, in Cleveland, OH.
It was the University Athletic Association (UAA) opener for both squads.
The Violets struck first inside of the opening seven minutes, as
Johannes Wolfram headed
Ahmed Ibrahim's free kick on to goal and past the keeper. It was Wolfram's first career goal as a Violet.
NYU's defense held strong in the first half as well, allowing just two shots and one shot on goal.
However, less than six minutes into the second half, CWRU evened the score with a goal into the low left corner.
The Spartans continued their barrage of shots, as they out-shot the Violets, 9-3, but
Jackson McCloskey made three saves to prevent further damage.
Bryce Lexow posted a team-high three shots for NYU, but was unable to find the back of the net.
NYU is back on the pitch next Saturday, October 12, when it faces the University of Chicago in Newark, NJ, at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Game time is set for 8:15pm.
