Men's Soccer Falls to UChicago

Maroons Scored Early in Second Half to Push Past Violets

The New York University men's soccer team fell to the University of Chicago, 2-1, on Saturday, October 12, in Newark, NJ, at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).

The Violets struck first on a goal by Rafael Panero-Ren in the 11th minute, assisted by Bryce Lexow. Lexow dished out a pass to his right inside the box, after which Panero-Ren buried a shot into the right corner. It was NYU's lone shot of the half.

Just over 15 minutes later, the Maroons answered with a goal on the other end.

Chicago took the lead less than eight minutes into the second half, which proved to be the game winner. The Maroons seemingly had a third goal in the 59th minute, but it was waived off for offside. Despite allowing the goal, Jackson McCloskey kept the Violets in the match with four saves the rest of the way.

With under 15 minutes remaining in the match, Nathan Bennett ripped a shot from 20 yards out, but it was saved by Chicago goalkeeper Dhirpal Shah. NYU put two more shots on goal, but was unable to find the back of the net and ultimately fell short.

In total, McCloskey made seven saves in the contest.

NYU returns to action on Saturday, October 19, when it faces Washington University in St. Louis in St. Louis, MO. Game time is set for 1:30pm.
