The New York University men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Emory University on Sunday, October 27, at Lubetkin Field in Newark, NJ.
The only goal of the game was scored by Emory's Julian Hee, assisted by Josh Grand, at the 29:45 mark of the first half.
The Violets kept attacking in pursuit of the equalizer, taking nine shots in the second half.
Then, with less than two minutes remaining in the contest, the Eagles were called for a penalty within the box.
However,
Bryce Lexow's penalty kick was saved by Emory goalkeeper Sharan Dodwani and the Eagles held on for the victory.
"It was a battle throughout. We showed a never-say-die attitude," said Head Coach
Kim Wyant. "It's a disappointing loss for sure, but the effort we gave and the attitude we showed was fantastic."
NYU out-shot Emory 13-9 overall and 7-5 on goal, but could not solve Dodwani.
Jackson McCloskey recorded four saves for the Violets. Lexow took a team-high four shots, with three landing on net.
Lexow,
Nathan Bennett,
Chaz Bond,
Joss Cohen,
Marcelo Freire,
Ahmed Ibrahim,
Alexander Kamperin,
Rafael Panero-Ren,
Ben Trask, and
Johannes Wolfram, as well as their families, all took part in a pre-game Senior Day ceremony.
:"It's always bittersweet when you have to say goodbye to your seniors," Wyant added. "There's so much talent in this group, my biggest ever. Many came in post-Covid and have experienced a lot of success. We've been through so much together."
The Violets return to action next Sunday, November 3, when they face Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, starting at 1:30pm.
