Women’s Swimming & Diving Takes on MIT and Williams College

#4-Ranked Violets Suffer Two Defeats

New York University's fourth-ranked women's swimming and diving team competed against Williams College and host MIT on Friday, January 26, in Cambridge, MA.

The Violets were defeated by both opponents, falling 170-130 to Williams and 166-134 to host MIT, as NYU's dual-meet record dropped to 4-2.

"The women had a few very strong performances. I'm happy with how we swam and competed today," said Head Coach Trevor Miele. "At this time of the year the wins and losses are not as important as racing head-to-head with teams of this caliber."

Nicole Ranile dominated the 200 freestyle, winning in 2:03.25, and placing second in the 500 free (5:04.61).

Caitlin Marshall placed second in the 1650 freestyle, covering the distance in a time of 17:31.03.

"We still have a few more weeks of prep before the UAA (University Athletic Association) Championships, but I think we are in a really good place and am excited to see how fast they will swim at that meet," Miele added.

NYU's All-American diver, Issara Schmidt, displayed her wares on Friday, winning the three-meter dive (289.70) and placing second in the one-meter (266.95)

The divers will be return to competition this Sunday, January 28 in Ithaca, NY. The swimmers are back in the pool on Friday, February 14, when they will compete on the first day of the UAA Championships in Chicago, IL.
