The New York University women's swimming & diving team,
ranked #4 in the nation, defeated #10 Johns Hopkins University 154-107 on Tuesday, January 16, in Baltimore, MD.
The Violets have won all four of their dual meets this season.
NYU won nine of the 14 events in defeating the Blue Jays in their home pool.
Kaley McIntyre helped the Violets get off to a good start, anchoring the 200 medley relay to victory (1:47.37) in the opening event. She also swam the second leg of NYU's winning 400 freestyle relay (3:34.30) that ended the competition. In between, she won the 200 freestyle (1:53.79) and placed just behind teammate
Hope Xayaveth (24.5) in the 50 freestyle (24.52).
"Kaley swam a fantastic 200 free," said Head Coach Trevor Mioele. "It was a very impressive race."
Xayaveth was a four-time winner, also taking the 100 butterfly (56.84) and swimming on the same two winning relays.
"Hope was outstanding in all her events today," Miele added.
Caitlin Marshall was victorious in the 1000 freestyle (10:34.55) and placed second in the 200 butterfly (2:08.37). She finished second to teammate
Reina Gomez (2:07.81) in that event.
Other winners for the Violets included
Emily Ma in the 100 backstroke (57.84) and
Calista Lynch in the 200 backstroke (2:06.37).
"I thought we swam really well for the time of the season," Miele concluded. "We posted a lot of solid swims and raced well."
The NYU divers did not compete on Tuesday, but will be back in action this Saturday, January 20, at the RPI Kumpf Diving Invitational in Troy, NY.
The swimmers are back in the pool on Friday, January 26, when they compete at MIT in Cambridge, MA.
