Violets Now 2-0 in UAA Play

Four different Violets scored 12-or-more points as New York University's top-ranked women's basketball team defeated Case Western Reserve University, 84-58, on Friday night in Cleveland, OH.

NYU is now 13-0 on the season and 2-0 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play. The Violets were led in this one by Morgan Morrison's game-high 14 points, while Natalie Bruns, Caroline Peper and Jordan Janowski added 12 each.

The first quarter was close throughout, with a Spartan three-pointer tying the score 8-8 three minutes in. NYU led by just three, 20-17, in the final minute, but Janowski's layup with 14 seconds left put the visitors ahead 22-17 after one.

NYU proceeded to control the second quarter, winning the frame 20-12. The Violets held CWRU to 5-of-13 field-goal shooting in the period while forcing five turnovers and scoring six second-chance points. This produced a 42-29 advantage for NYU at the break.

The Spartans never came closer than 14 in the third while NYU shot 10-of-16 from the floor in the frame. Eight different Violets scored in the quarter as NYU took a 65-48 lead into the fourth.

It was more of the same in the fourth as Olive Batch scored six points in just under three minutes of action and fellow rookie Yasmene Clark's pair of free throws with 11 seconds left gave NYU its largest lead of the game (26 points) which ended as the final score.

Morrison shot 6-of-12 from the field (2-of-2 FT) for her game-high 14 points, in addition to six rebounds. Bruns (6-of-12 FG) totaled five boards, four assists and two blocks to go with her 12 points.

Peper (four assists, three rebounds, a block and a steal) and Janowski (four boards and an assist) had well-rounded performances on top of their 12 points apiece.
