Kelli Keady and
Gabriella Funk each netted a hat trick as New York University's women's soccer team defeated John Jay College, 14-1, on Wednesday night in Newark, NJ.
The Violets improved to 7-0-0 on the season, winning all seven season-opening non-conference outings heading into this weekend's University Athletic Association (UAA) opener.
John Jay's Lucia Giangaspero capitalized on a defensive error for the visitors' lone tally, scoring in the 79th minute which was the first goal NYU conceded all season.
Keady began the scoring in the eighth minute, converting after a cross from
Dominique Bevacqua. NYU was awarded a penalty six minutes later, which Funk calmy sent into the bottom left corner to double the lead.
Then, in the 16th minute, the wingers linked up again as Bevacqua found Keady with another cross who sent it in for her second of the night.
Jayla Lee made it 4-0 in the 22nd, picking up a loose ball outside of the box and rifling it into the top of the net.
Makenzie Rodrigues got on the score sheet next in the 25th minute before Funk scored her second of the night with a tap in nine minutes later.
Yukino Wakatsuki finished off the first half scoring in the 38th on an assist from
Isa Badillo as the Violets led 7-0 at the break.
Funk secured her hat trick nine minutes into the second half, with Rodrigues providing the service, before Rodrigues scored her second less than a minute later via a pass from
Catie Collins.
Keady netted her third of the contest in the 59th minute, giving the senior two consecutive hat tricks, with Funk supplying the assist.
Wakatsuki then notched a brace with a solo goal in the 69th,
