The New York University women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2023 season, falling to
#6-ranked Case Western Reserve University 1-0 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) opener for both squads on Saturday, September 30, in Newark, NJ.
The game was tied through the first 85 minutes, but the Spartans' Alexis Sassover scored the game's only goal after receiving a pass from Helina VanBibber and gathering the ball after it hit off an NYU defender.
Each team had numerous chances throughout the contest, but NYU keeper
Tyler Hawkins and Case keeper Maggie Storti held their opponents scoreless until Sassover's game-breaker at 85:27. Both goalkeepers recorded four saves.
Each team took 10 shots in the game, with NYU having the advantage in corner kicks 5-2.
Hope Neale had a team-leading three shots for the Violets, while
Riley Mullady took a pair of shots which both went on net.
The Spartans are now 9-0-1 this season, while the Violets fell to 7-1-0.
The Violets are right back on the pitch Monday, October 2, when they travel to face Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
