After making it past the second day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championship in Geneva, NY, on Sunday, doubles pair
Dakota Fordham and
Isabella Hartman have secured their spot at the ITA Cup.
The pair posted an 8-2 win against Ithaca College in the quarterfinals and 8-7 (6) against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Nicole Widenour and Lorna Flores to confirm their place in the ITA doubles finals on Monday.
Jimena Menendez will join her teammates in Day 3 action after winning both of her singles matches on Sunday.
She defeated Haley Levine of tournament host William Smith College 6-0, 6-4 in the Round of 16 and triumphed 1-6, 6-3, 12-10 over Widenour of RPI in the quarterfinals.
"I am very happy for all of the players that advanced today," Head Coach
Horace Choy said. "Jimena has worked so hard the last two years and it's nice to see her get rewarded for all of that hard work. She played a very solid match in the Round of 16 and really stepped up her game in the quarters to come from behind and win. As for Dakota and Isabella, I'm very excited for them as well. They dominated play in the quarters against Ithaca and showed a lot of grit and poise, coming from behind against RPI in the semifinals. Regardless of the outcomes tomorrow, this tournament has been a huge success.
The ITA regional champions in singles and doubles will be determined on Monday, September 25.
The Violets will look to build on their streak of success at this tournament, having claimed the doubles crown for the past five years and four of the last five singles titles. The regional champions and finalists will advance to the ITA Cup held in Rome, GA, from October 12-14.
