Violets Defeat Rochester on Sunday

The New York University men's tennis team defeated the University of Rochester 5-2 in the Seventh-Place Match of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship on Sunday, April 23, in Altamonte Springs, FL.

The Violets came into the three-day tournament as the #7 seed, while the Yellowjackets were seeded #8.

NYU went ahead 2-1 in doubles play as the #1 team of Shrey Arora and Alex Yang (8-2) and the #2 team of Alex Yang and Boren Zheng (8-7) were victorious.

The Violets then clinched the match with straight-set singles victories by #3 Joseph He (6-4, 6-3), #4 Rumaish Khastgir (7-6, 6-1) and #5 Andy Watterson (6-3, 6-0).

"It was nice to cap off the season with a victory," said Head Coach Horace Choy. "Our signature all season has been to battle to the end. We saw that the first two days of the UAA's and we saw it again today. Rochester played hard, as an upset win against us would have would have made their season. We had enough guys step up and ensure that wasn't going to happen."

NYU has completed its 2022-23 dual meet season with a 7-8 record.
