Baseball Sweeps at McDaniel

Violets Now 4-0 in 2023

The New York University baseball team was back in action on Saturday. In their first road games of the the 2023 season, the Violets swept a doubleheader against McDaniel College in Westminster, MD.  

The Violets (4-0) defeated the Green Terror (2-4) 3-1 and 8-6. 

In the first game, John Gassler made his second impressive start of the season. After throwing six shutout innings in the season-opener last Sunday, Gassler was again masterful on Saturday. He allowed only one run and five hits while again striking out 10 batters. Gassler left the game after six innings and Ansel Balmer pitched a perfect seventh with two strikeouts for his first save of the season.  

The biggest offensive blow of the game was a two-run single provided by Nick Argenziano in the fifth which gave NYU a 3-0 lead. Kosta Mocklis' single knocked in the first run of the game in the top of the second.

Ryan Carr, Richard Beggy and Dakota Barbet each stroked a hit for the Violets, while Carr and Beggy also had a walk and stolen base.   

In the nitecap, Connor Roggero's eight-inning single snapped a 5-5 tie and Harrison Blueweiss followed with a two-RBI single as the Violets remained unbeaten this season. 

Roggero went 4-for-5 with 2 RBI. Argenziano also drove in two runs.

Cam Dunn and Alex VanLandingham each had a pair of hits for the Violets.

Tyler Judge started for the Violets and gave up four runs in his five innings. Joe Cetale, who went 2.1 innings in relief, picked up the victory while Aidan Dolisky  picked up his first save.  

The teams will be back at it tomorrow for another doubleheader beginning at 11:00am.
