Kendo traveled to Boston this past weekend for the 5th Harvard Invitational Shoryuhai Intercollegiate Kendo Tournament.
Hosted by the Harvard-Radcliffe Kendo Club, the Shoryuhai is the oldest intercollegiate kendo tournament in North America, and is held annually each spring. The tournament winner's trophy, the Hashimoto Cup, was even presented by former Japan Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto in 1998. This year, 22 schools and over 170 students participated.
The tournament was divided into team and individual rounds on Saturday and Sunday. Individuals competed in single elimination brackets with unlimited overtime. Teams participated in a round robin tournament, with each team this year competing in groups of six, and the winners of each group advancing to the quarter-finals.
NYU's Kendo Team A won their group and ended up taking third place!
- NYU Team A: Alex Loftus (Junior), Lorenzo Lopez (Sophomore), Nick Li (Junior), Andy Lee (Junior), Danny Chung (Sophomore)
