The New York University women's basketball team won its fifth straight game, defeating Carnegie Mellon University 82-50 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) game on Friday, February 3, in Pittsburgh, PA.
The Violets upped their season record to 16-2 overall and 6-2 in the UAA.
NYU fell behind quickly, trailing 8-2 less than three minutes into the contest. But an 8-0 run gave NYU its first lead.
With the score tied 14-14,
Natalie Bruns' jumper,
Belle Pellecchia's layup and
Caroline Peper's three-pointer accounted for a 7-0 run that gave NYU the lead for good.
The Violets were ahead 23-16 after the first quarter and led by as many as 13 in the second before settling for a 39-28 halftime lead.
NYU dominated the third quarter, scoring the first 10 points and outscoring the Tartans 28-5 to take a commanding 67-33 lead heading into the final quarter.
Honor Culpepper's three-pointer with 8:05 remaining boosted the Violets' lead to a game-high 38 points, 73-35.
Bruns led the Violets with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. Pellecchia finished with 11 points, as well as team highs of six rebounds and three assists. Peper also reached double-digits with 10 points.
Alyssa Alvarez contributed a season-high nine points, while
Mary Kate Fahey added eight, one off her career best.
The Violets are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they face host Case Western Reserve University at 2:00pm in Cleveland, OH.
