Flag Football Earns Berth to First Regionals

In their first year of existence as a club sport, NYU Flag Football has earned a bid to College Park, Maryland for the NIRSA Championship Series Region I Tournament. NYU will be sending a men's team, a women's team, an a coed team to the tournament this weekend.

The NIRSA Region I tournament is held every year for Region I schools with a bid and opportunity to compete at the NIRSA National Championship in Stillwater, Oklahoma on December 18-20, 2023.

In their inaugural season, the new Violets secured a record of 3-1 record with wins over local rivals in Manhattan College (twice) and Boston University. NYU dropped their final game on the road against Princeton University on November 3. Lead by newly appointed Head Coach, Terry White Jr. (also the Head Coach for the Running Club), Club President, Catherine Jiang, and Vice-President, Dan Zheng, Flag Football takes their at-large bid to Regionals with an opportunity to make a statement in the early rounds against schools they've already tested themselves against.

Sport Administrator, Alex Dalhausser who has guided Flag Football out of the gate in their inaugural season has been pleased with the early success for year one. "The team has been off to a great start in their first season and I am excited to see how the team grows and progresses over the next several years" said Dalhausser following the game at Princeton.

In the opening rounds at the Region I tournament, NYU will see those familiar teams as well as plenty of host school, Maryland. The Men's team opens up the tournament with scheduled contests against Manhattan College and University of Maryland. The Women's teams are set to play the University of Maryland. And the combined Coed team will play Monmouth University and the University of Maryland.
