Violets Victorious in First Road Game of the Season

NYU Defeats Kean and Increases Win Streak to Three

The #2-ranked New York University women's basketball team left home for the first time this season and traveled to Union, NJ, to take on Kean University on Friday night. However, NYU did not seem at all home-sick as they came out on top 80-36, leading for the entire night.

The scoring began with a Belle Pellecchia layup, propelling the Violets on an 11-2 run to start the game. The Cougars were able to shorten the lead to just five after a made shot by Cougar guard Brittany Graff, but after the entire NYU second unit entered the game, there was no looking back.

NYU's lead grew as they entered the second half with a 26-point margin, 44-18. Graduate student guard Megan Bauman's two free throws with two seconds left in the third made it 61-27 in favor of the visitors.

The fourth quarter was more of the same for the Violets as they came out on top 80-36 and improved to 3-0 in the new season.

The Violets had 22 points off turnovers, 15 second-chance points, and 58 points in the paint. The NYU bench had a season-high 45 points, which was spearheaded by reigning University Athletic Association (UAA) Rookie of the Year Caroline Peper, who notched 10 points in 15 minutes of action.

The Violets shot a season-high 53 percent from the field. This was partly due to Natalie Bruns, who had eight rebounds, three blocks, and 14 points while shooting 77.8 percent. Morgan Morrison went 5-of-7 and scored 11, pulling down six boards. Sophomore forward Reese Tremitiere was perfect, going 4-of-4, and she also grabbed five rebounds and had nine points.

Pellechia was facilitating the offense with six assists (season high), seven points, and assisted on the glass with five rebounds. Freshman Eden Williamson made her and NYU's only threes of the game, allowing her to score her career-high six.

The Violets return home to the Paulson Center for a Sunday afternoon contest where they will be taking on Colorado College. Action will begin at 2:00pm.
