The New York University women's soccer team scored three first-half goals en route to a 4-2 victory over the University of Chicago on Saturday, October 7, in the Windy City.
It was the first University Athletic Association win for first-year head coach
Scott Waddell.
Four different Violets scored as NYU upped its 2023 season record to 9-1 overall and 1-1 in the UAA, while Chicago dropped to 7-2-3, 0-1-1.
"It's great to get my first win in the UAA," Waddell said. "The University of Chicago is one of the esteemed programs in the nation and (head coach) Amy Reifert is a living legend. So, to grab a win against such a quality program and coach is really exciting."
The Violets took control of the game early, scoring three unanswered goals in the first half.
Hope Neale started things off with her third goal of the season just 4:19 into the contest.
Jessica Tonthat followed with her own goal at 27:04 and
Alexa Buxbaum ended the first-half scoring at 39:27.
All three goals were unassisted.
Gabriella Funk's team-lead-tying ninth goal gave NYU a 4-0 lead at 72:01.
The Maroons scored a pair of goals in the final five minutes to make the final score a bit more respectable.
Tyler Hawkins played the majority of the game in net for NYU and made three saves without allowing a goal.
The Violets return to the pitch this Wednesday, October 11, when they host DeSales University in Newark, NJ. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30pm.
