Kelli Keady recorded her fourth multi-goal game of the season as New York University's
22nd-ranked women's soccer team broke the program's single-season scoring record while defeating DeSales University, 6-0, on Wednesday night in Newark, NJ.
NYU has now scored 57 goals thus far in 2023, breaking the 51-goal mark set last year. Keady's pair of goals brought her season total to a team-high 11 as the Violets picked up their third straight win and improved to 10-1 on the season.
NYU's other goalscorers were
Jessica Tonthat,
Gabriella Funk,
Yukino Wakatsuki and
Hunter Hoelscher as the team secured its eighth clean sheet of the year.
Tonthat opened the scoring in the fifth minute, as Funk laid the ball off outside of the box and Tonthat floated her shot over the keeper from 20 yards out.
Funk doubled the lead five minutes later, heading the ball to the far post after a perfectly placed free kick from
Rachel Kim from just inside the midfield line.
Keady then made it 3-0 in the 25th minute, slotting in a first-time shot from the six-yard box on a ball in from
Dominique Bevacqua. The 3-0 advantage held at the break with NYU out-shooting DeSales 11-1 across the first 45 minutes.
Keady made it a double six minutes into the second half, streaking up the center of the pitch and receiving a through ball from Funk before a calm, right-footed finish.
Wakatsuki brought the score to 5-0 in the 61st, picking up a loose ball in the box and firing a bullet of a shot into the top left corner of the net which took a deflection off the keeper's outstretched hand.
Hoelscher went on the complete the scoring three minutes before the whistle, converting with her left foot from the top of the box after an assist from
Isa Badillo.
NYU out-shot the Bulldogs 24-2 (11-1 on target) and led 5-2 in corners won.
Violet keeper
Riley Felsher saved the lone shot she saw on goal in the shutout.
This was the final non-conference outing of the season for NYU, as the team returns to University Athletic Association (UAA) play on Saturday, October 14, hosting WashU in Newark, NJ.
