Bryce Lexow netted a double as New York University's men's soccer team defeated Eastern University, 3-0, on Tuesday night in Newark, NJ.
The Violets improved to 2-5-2 on the season with the victory, building momentum heading into their second University Athletic Association (UAA) outing this weekend.
Lexow's goals were his third and fourth of the season, but it was
Joss Cohen who scored the winner for NYU in the 22nd minute.
Cohen, the Violets' left back, headed home a slicing cross from opposite full back
Ben Trask to break the deadlock. It was Cohen's first collegiate goal and Trask's first assist of the season.
The 1-0 advantage held at halftime as NYU out-shot Eastern 12-1 across the opening 45 minutes, controlling possession throughout.
Lexow doubled the lead less than a minute into the second half, taking a perfectly weighted through ball from
Eric Smits and finishing around Eastern's keeper with his right foot.
Then, in the 60th minute, Lexow poached a rebound off a diving save and slotted it into the back of the net to secure his brace.
NYU was the aggressor throughout the contest, winning 12 corners while allowing just one and out-shooting the Eagles 25-3 (10-1 on target).
Chaz Bond relieved
Jackson McCloskey between the posts in the second half and saved Eastern's lone shot on goal.
The Violets return to action on Saturday, October 7, taking on UAA foe University of Chicago in Chicago, IL.
