Joss Cohen's goal with less than eight minutes to play lifted the New York University men's soccer team to a 1-0 University Athletic Association (UAA) road victory over the University of Chicago on Saturday, October 7, in the Windy City.
The Violets (3-5-2, 1-1-0) posted their first UAA win of the season, out-lasting last season's NCAA Division III Champions (6-2-3, 1-1-0).
"We executed our game plan to perfection and played with massive heart and determination," said Head Coach
Kim Wyant.
The game was scoreless until the 82:47 mark when Cohen netted the contest's only score on an assist from
Terra Nagai.
"Joss converted a great chance created by our team play," Wyant explained. "Terra laid the ball off to Joss who finished from just inside the 18-yard box and beat their goalkeeper to the far post. It was a beautiful goal!"
The Maroons out-shot the Violets 22-10, but only 7-5 on goal.
NYU goalkeeper
Chaz Bond made seven saves for the shutout.
"We stayed focused and grabbed the momentum late in the game," Wyant added. "I'm just so proud of our performance."
The Violets are right back on the pitch on Monday when they face New Jersey City University at 3:00pm in Jersey City, NJ.
