The New York University men's soccer team fell 4-1 to University Athletic Association (UAA) opponent Emory University on Sunday, October 22, in Atlanta, GA.
"We didn't meet the moment against a really good team," said NYU Head Coach
Kim Wyant. "We conceded soft goals early in the match and chasing the game with tired legs from the long grueling weekend is impossible."
Emory scored two quick goals from the feet of Jake Atallah (4:05) and Colton Myers (6:38).
Myers completed his brace at 37:31 to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Eagles.
With five minutes left in the first half, the hosts scored a fourth goal from Lorenzo Avalos to set them up 4-0 going into the half.
The Violets fought hard in the second half and it paid off with a goal.
Arkan Tahsildaroglu netted from the penalty spot at 53:42 to get them on the board.
"We had a much better second half, conceding no goals and scoring one. But, 4-0 down at half is a really deep hole that's hard to overcome," added Wyant. "Nonetheless, we needed a more consistent performance."
Emory out-shot NYU 14-11, 7-3 in shots on goal, and NYU attempted five corner kicks while Emory had four.
Tahsildaroglu attempted six shots, with his one on goal being the spot kick.
Bryce Lexow had three shots, two of them on goal.
Jackson McCloskey came on for the Violets at halftime and made three saves to keep a clean sheet over the final 45 minutes.
NYU returns to action Sunday, October 29, at 1:30pm against UAA competitor Carnegie Mellon University.
