The New York University men's soccer team drew 1-1 against Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday, October 29, at home in Newark, NJ, as
Terra Nagai found the back of the net at 79:12 to give the Violets an equalizer.
CMU got on the board first with a goal off a throw-in. Billy Boucuvalas threw the ball into the box as Dominic Hoar-Weiler got a touch on it then slid it to Jake Slackman for a goal at 18:55.
Shortly after the visitors' goal, NYU was awarded a free kick which
Arkan Tahsildaroglu sent just above the bar, keeping the Tartans in the lead.
Going into halftime, the Violets had attacking dominance in shots 10-7, 5-2 on goal.
"We conceded a soft goal and despite desperate and frequent attacking, we squandered too many good offensive opportunities," said Head Coach
Kim Wyant.
NYU came out strong in the second half, getting off three shots within the first 10 minutes.
The opportunity finally came for the Violets when Nagai scored unassisted on a rebound to even out the score for the final 10 minutes.
NYU out-shot CMU 24-13, 9-4 on goal by the end of the match. The Violets had nine corners while the Tartans had none.
Tahsildaroglu led in shots with eight, Nagai followed with four, and both Ben Trask and Nathan Bennett had three in the game.
Liam Ryan kept CMU in the lead on many occasions, making eight saves while NYU goalkeeper Chaz Bond had three.
"We have to have a stronger mentality in both of our boxes," added Wyant.
The Violets return home to Newark, NJ, on Saturday, November 4, to celebrate Senior Day and host their final regular-season match against Brandeis University.
