On Saturday, the New York University
seventh-ranked women's swimming and diving team began their season in the Palladium Natatorium with a triumph over West Chester University of Pennsylvania,
ranked sixth in NCAA Division II.
The Violets collected 197 points to take down the Rams' 103.
Nicole Ranile started her season off strong, winning the 200 freestyle in 1:54.45, the 200 butterfly in 2:04.94 and the 500 freestyle in 5:09.60.
"Nicole killed it today," Head Coach Trevor Miele said. "She swam some great races and came out with three very important wins. She came into the season in great shape and has stepped up her in-season training to another level. I'm really excited to see how she does when we rest."
Kaley McIntyre added two victories to the team's day. She touched in 24.37 to win the 50 freestyle and 52.78 to win the 100 freestyle.
Emily Ma hit the wall in 58.11 in the 100 backstroke to take the win.
The team's new recruits this year also posted victories in their first meet representing the Violets.
Grace Baik out-touched teammate
Hope Xayaveth by 0.08 seconds in the 100 butterfly, finishing in a time of 56.86.
Calista Lynch claimed the 200 individual medley title, clocking 2:10.95.
The 400 freestyle A relay squad of Ranile,
Jolie Le Fauve,
Isabel Oldham, and McIntyre recorded the Violets' ninth win of the day, recording 3:33.55.
Over in the diving well,
Meera Kasturi won the 1-meter dive with a score of 233.40.
Maya Williams finished in second behind Kasturi with 224.78 and
Claire Stephenson placed fifth with 201.38.
Kasturi also won the 3-meter with 229.65. Williams placed third (211. 95) and Stephenson finished fifth (195.90).
"The team has been training extremely hard and it was awesome to see them get up and race one of the top DII teams in the nation," Miele said. "Though the team was tired, they still pulled off a great performance."
