The New York University
fifth-ranked men's and
fifth-ranked women's swimming & diving teams suffered their first dual meet losses of the season on Friday against Williams College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Williamstown, MA.
The men lost 198-102 against 11th-ranked Williams and 174-124 against #4 MIT. Host #7 Williams dominated the women 212-88, while the sixth-ranked Engineers edged the Violets 158-142.
While the competition proved tough for both teams,
Nicole Ranile emerged victorious in the 200 butterfly, out-touching teammate
Caitlin Marshall by 0.01 seconds with a time of 2:06.09 for a 1-2 Violet finish.
Emery Muller posted another strong performance in the 200 freestyle, taping 1:55.19 to place second just 0.15 seconds behind Georgia Panitz of Williams.
On the men's side,
Leo Han continued his undefeated season, winning the 200 butterfly in 1:51.60, the 200 backstroke in 1:50.40 and the 100 butterfly in 49.78.
Ajay Watanakun took third behind Han in the 100, finishing in 51.15. He clocked 21.04 in the 50 freestyle to finish second.
Over in the diving well,
Meera Kasturi led the way for the Violets in the women's three-meter with a fourth-place score of 251.03. In the one-meter,
Katherine Nardone and
Issara Schmidt finished fourth and fifth with scores of 227.40 and 227.03, respectively.
Hunter Whitbeck was the top scorer on the men's team, placing second in the men's three-meter with 294.30 and third in the one-meter with 263.55.
"It was exciting to go against some top competition today and it is unfortunate we didn't come out on top," head swimming coach
Trevor Miele said. "We have another meet tomorrow and I hope we can bounce back with a strong performance."
The Violets will face off against West Chester University of Pennsylvania tomorrow at 11:00 am in West Chester, PA, for their final dual meet before the University Athletic Association Championships on February 8-11.
