Krause and Fordham Sweep ITA Regional Titles

Duo won NYU's 5th straight doubles title, 4th of last 5 singles wins

Ida Krause and Dakota Fordham continued New York University's women's tennis team's successful streak at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional Championships, claiming both the singles and doubles crowns.

Krause, a graduate student, defeated Fordham (6-2, 6-2) in the singles final while the pair won 6-1, 6-3 over Nikki Ridenour and Krisia Flores of RPI to secure the doubles title.

The tournament was hosted by Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, from Friday to Sunday, September 23-25.

"I'm very happy for both Ida and Dakota," said head coach Horace Choy. "They played a lot of tennis but showed their dominance in both doubles and singles. I'm looking forward to going back to the ITA Cup in Georgia in a couple of weeks to see how they compete."

Today's victories marked the fifth consecutive ITA Regional doubles title for NYU while the Violets have also had four of the last five singles champions. NYU now sends both the Northeast singles and doubles winners to the ITA Cup in Rome, GA, for the fourth time in the past five years.

The victories garner All-America status for Fordham and Krause in doubles and Krause in singles as well. NYU now boasts 17 ITA All-Americans in program history.

"I thought NYU had a great tournament," Fordham said. "I'm happy that Ida and I were able to win doubles and I want to further congratulate her for winning singles as well. I'm happy with how I played and hope to continue to improve and have a strong showing at nationals."

To reach today's finals, Krause topped University of Rochester's Josephine Libby (6-4, 7-5) in the singles semis while Fordham won her semifinals match via default.

In doubles, Krause and Fordham defeated Charlotte Roarty and Jenny Landells of TCNJ, 8-4, in the doubles semifinals.

Krause remains undefeated in singles on the season, handing Fordham her first loss of the year in the final. The two of them have yet to lose a match in doubles.

Now, the Violet duo will look to capture national titles when they head to the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, GA, for the 2022 ITA Cup from October 13-16.
