Tennis Teams Conclude Lions Invitational

Men open 2022 season while women continue strong start to the year

New York University's men's and women's tennis teams completed play at the Lions Invitational, hosted by The College of New Jersey, on Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18, in Ewing, NJ.

The Invitational was the first event for the men of 2022 while the women continued their hot start to the campaign.

Women's Highlights

NYU won all but one match on the weekend, taking on Ithaca College and the host Lions. Dakota Fordham, the 2021 ITA Northeast Regional Singles Champion, maintained her undefeated start to the season to lead a strong performance from top to bottom.

Men's Highlights

The Violets performed well against Ithaca, winning all four doubles matches and all but two singles draws.

TCNJ proved to be a challenge, however, as Joseph He and Andy Watterson were the only Violets to win in doubles (8-7) while Devan Sabapathy (2-6, 6-1, 14-12) — who won in exciting fashion — and Massimo Perrotta (8-5) provided the only two singles victories.

The Violet women shift their focus to the ITA Northeast Regional, beginning on Thursday, September 22, in Ithaca, NY. The men's next official competition is their ITA Regional as well, but they're first scheduled to play Stevens in a scrimmage on Saturday, September 24.
