Softball Sweeps Doubleheader

Violets Shutout Mt. St. Mary on Both Ends

The New York University softball team ended its 2022 home season by shutting out Mount Saint Mary College in both ends of a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 26, at the College of Staten Island on Staten Island, NY.

The Violets (15-20) won the first game 2-0 and the nightcap 3-0.

Once again, strong pitching and timely hitting spelled success for NYU.

Marina Egbert and Mount Saint Mary Bridget Morris hurled shutout innings in the opener until the Violets batted in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Hannah Lee doubled for her second hit of the game and Erin Scott followed with a blast over the centerfield fence.

It was all the support Egbert needed, who went the distance. She allowed only four hits and did not walk a batter while striking out four.

It was Maggie Swan's turn to whitewash the Knights (15-14) in the second game. She also threw a complete game and only allowed one hit, a single in the third inning.

NYU scratched out a run in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Kalena Paredes and added two more in the third on another RBI groundout by Erin Scott and a Mount Saint Mary error.

Bella Dunning recorded two of the Violets' six hits in the contest.

"Our pitchers did an incredible job keeping their batters off balance all day and we got timely hits when we needed them," said Head Coach Now-Allah James. "I am so proud of the seniors as they played a big role in their final home games of the season."

Left on the schedule is a road doubleheader against Hunter College on Tuesday, May 3. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm on Randall's Island.
