New York University's baseball team dropped a 17-6 decision to Salve Regina University on Sunday in Newport, RI.
NYU got on the board in the first inning when
Grant Berman singled home
Connor Roggero, giving the Violets an early 1-0 lead.
However, in the bottom half of the inning, Salve Regina's offense caught fire and exploded for 10 runs.
The Seahawks built on their offensive momentum from the first inning, tacking on two more runs in the second and third, respectively.
After a five-inning scoring drought,
Jacob Singer cut into the hosts' lead by launching a solo homer to left center, his first home run of the season.
In the eighth inning, with the Seahawks up 15-2, third baseman
PJ Mahoney doubled in
Nick McLaughlin and
Dillon DiBartolomeo plated two with a single, trimming the deficit to 15-5.
In the home half of the inning, Salve Regina shortstop Jason Ariggo hit a two-run bomb, cementing the Seahawks win.
Berman finished 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, run scored and an RBI. Roggero, Singer and Mahoney all went 2-for-3 at the plate with Roggero and Mahoney both recordings doubles.
Joseph Augustine and
Joseph Argenziano each had scoreless outings out of the bullpen.
NYU will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday, April 27, with a road game at Stockton University in Galloway, NJ. The Violets walked off with a win over Stockton last week.
