Connor Roggero's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth gave New York University's baseball team a 10-9 walk off win over Stockton University at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn on Wednesday evening.
The Violets came back from a six-run deficit, improving to 18-9 on the season.
John Gassler earned the pitching win, holding the Ospreys scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings.
Stockton got off to a fast start after Ryan Mihlebach hit a grand slam off the scoreboard in left for a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. NYU got in the run column in the bottom half on
Richard Beggy's RBI double, but the Ospreys plated three more runs in the top of the second for a 7-1 advantage early on.
Joe Cetale and
Nate Pallotta recorded RBI singles in the second and third innings, respectively, as the Violets started to claw back and trailed 7-3 after three full.
A three-run third brought NYU within one, 7-6, highlighted by
Cam Dunn's two-run single to left center.
The fifth inning was scoreless but Stockton scored its final two runs of the game in the sixth on another home run to left field.
NYU remained composed and scored lone runs in each of the final four innings to complete the comeback.
Jacob Singer had RBI singles in the sixth and eighth while Roggero drove in a run on a base hit in the seventh.
In the bottom of the ninth,
Zane Baker led off with a single and advanced all the way to third with aggressive baserunning on a sacrifice bunt. The next batter walked before Roggero stepped up and delivered, launching a deep fly ball to right center that gave Baker plenty of time to score the winning run.
Roggero (2-for-4) and Singer (2-for-5) drove in two runs apiece while Baker finished 2-for-5 with three runs scored, a triple and a stolen base.
Ryan Carr went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, two runs and an RBI.
Gassler allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out three across his pivotal two innings of work on the mound.
Jack Hassett also tossed a scoreless frame out of the bullpen.
Next up for NYU is another non-league game at home, taking on the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Friday, April 22. First pitch from Maimonides Park is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
