The New York University baseball team lost 12-5 to Case Western Reserve University in the finale of a four-game series in Cleveland, OH, on Sunday, April 17.
The Violets (17-9, 7-9) led the University Athletic Association (UAA) contest 4-0, but couldn't hold on in dropping their third straight game to the first-place Spartans (18-15, 9-3).
An RBI single by
Zane Baker followed by
Joe Cetale's two-RBI single gave NYU a 3-0 lead in the top of the second, and
Alex VanLandingham's bases-loaded walk increased the lead to 4-0 in the third.
The Case comeback began with three runs in the fourth and continued with runs in the fifth (1), sixth (4), seventh (3), and eighth (1) innings as they pulled away for the victory.
NYU's final run scored on
Nate Pallotta's RBI triple in the eighth.
Six Violets pitched in the contest, with starter
Ashwin Chona (2-3) going the first five innings and suffering the loss.
Cam Dunn and
Richard Beggy each had two hits for NYU.
The Violets return to action on Wednesday, April 20, when they host Stockton University at 4:00pm at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn, NY.
