Women's Tennis Picks Up Second Straight Win

Violets Defeat William Smith 8-1

The New York University women's tennis team traveled to William Smith College in Geneva, NY, for their second match of the weekend on Sunday, March 27.

Coming off a strong win on Saturday, the Violets continued to excel on the court and defeated William Smith 8-1.

"The women played well," Head Coach Horace Choy said. "We had contributions up and down the lineup while sweeping the singles. Carol, Karina, and Jimena continue their strong play, remaining undefeated in singles this spring. It was a good weekend of tennis for them and the team looks to take another step forward next weekend against two solid teams."

The day started out strong with wins at first doubles (Carol Plakk and Karina Jensrud, 8-2) and third doubles (Phoebe Su and Lynn Robinson, 8-1). The second doubles team of Jimena Menendez and Emily Baxter came just shy of a win (8-6) in their closely-contested match.

Continuing into singles play, the Violets stood 2-1 over the Herons. In a great showing, NYU's women proceeded to win all six singles matches in straight sets. Plakk, Su, and Robinson were unwavering at first, fifth, and sixth singles, respectively, winning their matches without surrendering a game (6-0, 6-0).

At second singles, Jensrud was victorious 6-1, 6-2 with Menendez taking a win at third singles (6-3, 6-1), and Baxter wrapping up her fourth singles match 6-1, 6-1.

The Violets look to make it three straight wins next weekend when they face off against Babson College on Saturday, April 2.
